Assessment Process

Initial Phone Consultation
I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation to help you decide if I am the ‘right’ counsellor for you.  You can use this time to ask me any questions and I will provide you with an overview of how I might work with you.

Initial Assessment
If you decide to work with me, then you will be invited to have an initial assessment (usually a 50 minute session) to ascertain if we think we can work together. The session will cover contracting, an overview of your needs and questions.

Contracting
During contracting I will outline confidentiality, record keeping, code of ethics, payment and cancellations. We will also agree an initial focus for our work together.

Overview of your needs
We will explore your reason for seeking counselling and you are invited to share this with me at a level that feels right for you. To be able to provide you with effective support it is important that we are able to establish a connection.

Questions
I encourage you to ask questions and to seek clarification to enable you to decide whether to enter into additional counselling sessions with me.
